Veppilai katti is one extrordinary dry powder which is usually consumed as a pickle and which does not need oil to prepare.Yes,it is a pickle made out of fresh citron leaves carefully pounded and grounded to perfection along with a few spices. It is also called as Narthailai Podi i.e.Citron Leaf Powder in Tamil and Narangi Patta in Hindi.Normally as far as I know no hotel serves this and is usually homemade, though some like stores which sell Vadams, Applams and Vathals like Ambika Applam Company makes this and sells it in the market. My hubby loves this and will always demand for it and he will eat this with almost everything.I don’t get fresh citron leaves in Bangalore, so when visiting mom in Chennai last month had a chance to pluck a few leaves from mom’s neighbour and made it there.Hubby was equally pleased as I was.You can drizzle sesame oil over it and have it with idlis and dosas too.Simple to make and good for digestion as well as this has ajwain/omam.
