Festival recipes

India is a land of festivals and celebrations all round the year.Eaach one of the festivities have a story attached to it and a lot of time and involvement is required in celebrating and making of the delicacies for these festive occasions.I have compiled below a list of recipes made during each festival.Hope you all like this.

PONGAL/SANKRANTI/KAANU PONGAL RECIPES

Pomgal is the harvest festival.It is celebrated in mid january usually spanning from january 13th to 16th.Many dishes are prepared chief of which is sakkarai pongal and venpongal.I have given the various recipes prepared for this occasion below

Rama Navami is celebrated on the ninth day of Chaitra Masa on the occasion of LORD RAMA , an incarnation of LORD VISHNU. The following are the recipes made for the occasion.

TAMIL VARUSHA PIRAPPU RECIPES

The first festival in the tamil calendar and this is celebrated in the month of april.It is presumed that as we have our share of joys and sorrows in life so understand it better many delicacies of sweet,sour,bitter,hot and astringent are made and relished.The following are some of the recipes made for the occasion.

ADI PERRUKU/PADINETTAM PERRUKU RECIPES

Adi Perukku or Padinettam Perruku is a moonsoon festival of Tamil Nadu.The people show respect and gratitude to Mother Nature by calebrating this festival.The festival falls at the end of July or the start of August as per the english  calendar.On this occasion women make many rice varieties and bring it to the banks o the river and offer it to GOD and thank Mother Cauvery for the supply of her water which is so prime to our daily needs.The following recipes are made and offered to GOD.

VARALAKSHMI VRATAM POOJA RECIPES

Varalakshmi vratam is performed by married women for the well being and long lives of their husbands.Usually falls between july 15th and august 15th,for  this festival the following recipes are made and offered to GODESS VARAMAHALAKSHMI.

AVANI AVITTAM RECIPES

Avani avittam is an important ritual observed by the brahmin community.It is a ceremony of changing the sacred thread (poonal).The following recipes are made for the occasion.

RAKSHA BANDHAN RECIPES

Raksha Bandhan is an Indian festival celebrated on full moon day of the Hindu Lunar-Solar month of Shravana which falls in the month of August. Raksha means bond of protection where sisters tie rakhi on the wrist of their brothers.

GOKULASHTAMI/JANMASHTAMI/KRISHNA JAYANTHI RECIPES

This festival is celebrated on the joyous occasion of bitrh of LORD KRISHNA.The following things are offered to GOD.It is celebrated in the month of july or august as per hindu calendar.

GANESHA CHATURTHI/VINAYAGAR CHATURTHI RECIPES

This festival is celebrated on the holy occasion of the birth of LORD GANESHA.It is celebrated in the month of mid august to mid september as per hindu calendar.The following are some of the recipes made during the occasion.

NAVARATHRI RECIPES

Navarathri is one festival which is celebrated for 9 days throught in honour of GODESS DURGA.In southern part of india a tradition to keep kolu is there meaning beautiful arrangement of dolls in steps.For nine days ladies and small girls are invited in each household and gifts are given alongwith sundal and vethala pakku.These are the delicacies made for the occasion.

DIWALI SWEETS AND SNACKS RECIPES

Diwali or festival of lights is celebrated throughout the country with pomp and gaeity.In north it is celebrated as the day when LORD RAM returned to ayodhya from Sri lanka after victory over ravana.In south it is beleived that LORD KRISHNA killed narakasura on this day.Whatever the reason do make these sweets and savouries and enjoy.
