COCONUT POLI/THENGAI POLI

I have been out of the blogging scenario for sometime now, and it seemed it would never happen in the near the future. I was travelling and couldn’t get to the routine, though I wanted to do very much. I am posting today a sweet recipe called Thengai or Coconut Poli. It is a very easy to make recipe and can be in a short time. The good part is it can be stored for a week if kept in fridge. I made this  two weeks ago and I was happy to take pictures as well. Coconut Pornam or the stuffing is made in the usual manner as we make for Modakam. You can make this for Avani Avittam, Boghi or Tamil New Year. You can make it for any other festive occasion or get togethers. While Dal or Paruppu Poli also known as Pooran Poli is a bit heavy, this one is light on the stomach.

As you can see the stuffing is very easy to prepare and if you aolour.re making for guests and not as an offering to GOD, you can very well prepare the stuffing in advance and knead the dough as well. There are innumerable variations of stuffing that you can experiment on the Poli. Unlike Paruppu Poli I have not added any colour to th edough as I wanted it to keep it plain and highlight the white colour. I also wanted to try Milk or Pal Poli and Jeera Poli as well. You can even make a spicy stuffing and name it as per your choice. The only thing to be noted here is to take care the stuffing does not come ou while flattening the poli. It will come by practice and patience. Enjoy this recipe and let me know the outcome.
