RAVA KOZHUKATTAI

Rava Kozhakattai or Modak made from sooji or semolina is made usually by frying. It is mandatory for Offering in Ganesha Homams and also made during Sankat Hara Chathurthi which falls on the fourth day after Poornima of the Krishna Paksham. Coming to the recipe, it is a most easy one to make unlike the steamed kozhakattais or modaks as the dough for this is kneaded and so can be easily stretched and shaped. I had not posted for long and so after a long break posting this sweet recipe that I made for last Sankat Hara Chaturthi.

This Dumpling uses easily available ingredients for the dough and filling. The filling is the same as that we use for Steamed Modaks. Also there is an option you have. You can fry the kozhukattais in ghee or oil. i fried them in oil only. You can use wheat flour also in place of maida. I make this once in a month and offer it to Lord Ganesha in the evenings after performing pooja for Sankat Hara Chathurthi. You cab make it for Ganesha Chathurthi as well.

The modaks originated from Maharashtra and it is a famous recipe there. All households make it for the Ganesha Festivals and offer it to God and celebrate it with great grandeur. I have a number of Modak recipes in my blog. I have given the list below and do try out these yummy delicacies. Whether it is steamed or fried these dumplings are always tasty and made during the offerings. Nowadays even if you have Modak moulds available in the market. These are made in plastic or metal and is easily available everywhere. Check my Modak recipes below
