NACHOS

Nachos is a Mexican  dish made from corn meal, wheat flour and carom seeds. It is had with tortillas or cheese. It is also popular in  the U.S particularly in Texas and the southwest. There are many variations to this dish and also the toppings differ. I have used the available ingredients at home. You can make any variety you like. Mostly it is made out of corn meal that is readily available in the market. This gives a distinct yellow colour that is so pleasing to the eyes. I have made here the fried version of Nachos. You can try the baked version too, which is even more healthier. I have served this with salsa, but you can always try cheesy variants. There is another accompaniment such as baked red beans which is so protein rich. The side dishes are plenty, sky is the limit for trying out innovative methods.

I have also seen jalapeno topping, which is equally tasty and delicious as salsa. These are served as appetizers as well, so when you are planning for your next party, you can try this for sure. Nachos originated in the city of Piedras Negras, Mexico just over the border of Texas. In the year 1943, U.S. soldiers were staitioned at Fort Duncan and were in the city of Piedras Negras for a shopping spree. Since the restaurants were closed that day, the chef created a new dish for them. He tried and serves a new snack with the available ingredients with him. When the soldiers asked the name of the dish , he said Nacho’s especiales. So this is the story of the great snack Nachos. The popularity soon spread far and wide. And many came up with innovation additions of toppings and methods. I have a video of this in my YouTube channel too
