KANDA POHA

Kanda Poha is a staple food of Maharashtra and is eaten with awe for breakfast. This is made with beaten rice or poha with potatoes(batata) and onion(kanda) and cooked to perfection. It is an easy to make dish and is also a good lunch box option. One my friends who is a Maharashtrian, taught me the exotic recipe which was not only quick but easy and tasty as well.Plenty of onions and boiled and cubed potatoes gives this recipe a unique and flavourful feel.As many of you might be aware of Poha in South Indian cuisine would be either Puli Aval which is tamarind based or a pepper flavoured one called Milagu Aval. Also there is a sweet version with jaggery called Vella Aval and sugar based Aval Kesari.

MINI IDLI SAMBHAR

Mini Idli Sambhar is one such recipe whereby the sambhar is drinkable, rich, flavourful and is of slightly thin consistency than the usual sambhar.People in Tamil Nadu call it as 14 idli sambhar or ghee idli sambhar. Here in Karnataka it is called button idli and is served with sambhar.Whatever the name might be,it is a tasty and filling recipe which can fill your hungry tummy any time of the day.I kept the sambhar here, simple and just added veggies and sambhar powder. It is so flavourful that you can simply drink the sambhar and eat your idlis and enjoy every bit to the…

OPEN BUTTER MASALA DOSA

Open Butter Masala Dosa is one of the items I always order whenever we go out to eat, specially it tastes great at Adigas, the famous chain of resturants here in Bangalore.I have so much wanted to make this at home, specially on a weekend dinner and I could make this last week. All enjoyed it to the core and needless to say it was a super duper hit in Nithya’s Kitchen.I was so pleased with the outcome that I am planning to make this often. The fact that the masala is on the top rather than inside as a stuffing,is the attraction here. Also it has toppings of grated coconut and ,coriander leaves, idli molaga podi and dollops of butter.Yummy!!

LEMON SEVAI/LEMON IDIYAPPAM

Lemon sevai is a tangy tasty tiffin or breakfast recipe I usually make at home.Specially helpful in days whenever onion is forbidden, this is a wholesome dinner option as well.I made this with with rice flour, but you can make it the traditional way of soaking the rice and grinding it nicely and steaming it and then putting it in the nazhi or press and squeeze out. That process is long, time consuming but very tasty. The method I used is equally flavourful and forms a good meal.See down below the recipe of Lemon Sevai.
