Ingredients
  • 4cups rice flour
  • 1/4cup urad dalpowder-
  • 1/2cup gram flourRoasted [Pottukadalai flour]-
  • 2tbsp Channa dal
  • 2tsp coconutgrated-
  • 2tsp red chillipowder-
  • 3tsp butter
  • 1tsp sesameWhite –
  • water-to knead
  • salt-as per taste
  • 1pinch asafoetida
  • 2sprigs curry leaves
  • oil( for deep frying)
Instructions
  1. Take roasted gram in a blender.
  2. Blend nicely.
  3. Soak channa dal in water for about an hour.
  4. Take rice flour in a wide bowl and add urad dal powder,roasted gram flour,coconut gratings,asafoetida,soaked channa dal,red chilly powder,white sesame,butter,curry leaves and salt to taste.
  5. By adding water litlle by little make a soft dough.
  6. Take a foil or sheet and dust with flour.Make lemon sized bals or bigger as you may want.
  7. Flatten it with the help of your fingers as shown.
  8. It should come like this.
  9. Prick it with a fork ,otherwise it may puff.
  10. Heat oil in a kadai and when it is hot drop in the thattais.
  11. Fry till golden brown.
  12. Follow the same for all thattais and take them out in a paper napkin to absorb excess oil.
  13. Crispy thattais are ready to eat as an evening snack with your favourite cuppa.

Notes

You could add pepper powder in place of red chilli powder.

Instead of soaked channa dal you can add peanuts.

You can also make small sized thattais. They’ll look really cute.
