Ingredients
  • 4 – 5tsp black pepper
  • 3tsp Tur Dal
  • 2tsp urad dal
  • 2tsp Coriander Seeds
  • Tamarind gooseberrya shaped ball
  • 3 ChillyRed
  • to taste salt
  • 1tsp Jeera / Cumin
TO TEMPER
  • 4 – 5tsp sesame oil
  • 1tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1sprig curry leaves
  • 1/2tsp asafoetida
Instructions
  1. In a small pan add the dals,coriander seeds,red chilles,black pepper,cumin and fry in a medium flame.
  2. Once browned transfer to a blender.
  3. Grind coarsely.
  4. In a pan add sesame oil,mustard seeds to splutter.Add now curry leaves and asafoetida.
  5. Add in the tamarind extract and salt.
  6. Add the powder and boil till raw smell goes away.
  7. Boil till you get a thick mass and oil leaves the sides of your pan.
  8. Once done switch off the flame.
  9. Serve hot with steaming rice.Compliment with fried or roasted papad.Believe me you’ll like this for sure.

  • You could add 2 pods of garlic and grind it to the gravy.
  • Adjust the quantity of peppercorns as per your taste.
  • Sesame oil works best so don’t skip it.
