Ingredients
  • 1/2cup Tur Dal/Thuvaram paruppu
  • 1/2cup Channa dal
  • 2tsp urad dal
  • 3 red chilli
  • gingera bit
  • 2 onion
  • 1sprig curry leaves
  • coriander leavesfew leaves
  • to taste salt
  • 1/4tsp turmericpowder
  • Oil(for deep frying)
Instructions
  1. Soak tur,channa and urad dal in a vessel with water for an hour.After it has soaked drain water.
  2. Add in the blender,dals,red chilli and ginger.
  3. Grind coarsely.
  4. Take in a vessel the ground batter,salt,turmeric,chopped onion,curry and coriander leaves and asafoetida.
  5. Mix well and make a ball .
  6. Flatten it with your hand.
  7. Heat oil in a kadai and drop in vadas one by one.
  8. Take them out once nice,crisp and brown.
  9. Drain on a paper tissue.
  10. Serve hot with coconut chutney or any other chutney.

Notes

  • You can add a pod of garlic while grinding the batter.
  • You can also add a teaspoon fennel seeds along with the batter.I didn’t add since hubby doesn’t like it.
  • Turmeric powder not only gives a nice colour but also good flavour,so don’t miss it.
