Ingredients
  • 1cup Green Peasdried
  • 1tsp Mustard
  • 1tsp Urad Dal
  • to taste Salt
  • Apinch Asafoetida
  • 1sprig Curry Leaves
  • 3tsp Grated Coconut
  • 1/2tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1tsp Oil
FOR THE POWDER
  • 2tsp Coriander Seeds
  • 2tsp Channa dal
  • 1tsp Black Pepper
  • 1tsp Cumin
  • 3 Red Chilles
Instructions
  1. Soak green peas/pattani overnight or at least for 8 hrs.
  2. Pressure cook for 3 whistles and strain.
  3. For making spice powder dry roast in a pan all the ingredients given in the for the powder table till nice aroma comes and the spices turn golden brown.Keep the flame low and ensure they don’t turn black as it will give a bitter taste.
  4. Once cooled place them in a blender.
  5. Grind coarsely.
  6. In a pan heat oil,mustrad ,urad dal,curry leaves and asafoetida.
  7. Once they crackle add boiled peas,turmeric powder,salt,spice powder and freshly grated coconut.Mix well.
  8. Wait till all mixture is combined.
  9. Green peas sundal/Pattani sundal is ready for offering as Neivedhyam.

Notes

  • You can try adding grren chilies instead of red ones.
  • Addition of coriander leaves and green chilly paste to it in place of adding spice powder mix is another option.
  • If giving to kids add grated carrots with few drops of lime.
