Ingredients
  • Tamarind lemona shaped ball
  • 3 Brinjals
  • 1tsp mustard
  • 1tsp Tur Dal
  • 1/2tsp methi
  • 2 ChillyRed
  • 1pinch asafoetida
  • 3tsp sesame oil
  • to taste salt
  • 1sprig curry leaves
  • a few coriander leaves
  • 1tsp rice flour
Instructions
  1. Soak the tamarind in water.Set aside the extracted juice.
  2. In a copper bottomed vessel add sesame oil and one by one add mustard, tur dal, methi seeds, red chilly and asafoetida.
  3. Now add cut brinjals,sambhar powder,salt etc. and fry a little.
  4. Add the tamarind extract and boil for a while till raw smell goes away.If you find the gravy watery add rice flour say,about a teaspoon mixed in water for thickening.
  5. Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves.Enjoy with hot rice toppled with sesame oil.

Notes

Do not substitute any other oil.Sesame oil tastes best for this.

Paruppu thogayal tastes divine with this gravy.

You can add aclove of garlic,if you like.
