AVAREKALU BISI BELE BATH

Ingredients
  • 1/2cup Avarekalu/Hyacinth Beans
  • 1/3cup White Channa
  • 1/3cup Black Channa
  • 1/3cup White Peas
  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/2cup Tur Dal
  • TamarindA Gooseberry Sized Ball
  • SaltTo Taste
  • 2tsp Eastern Bisi Bele Bath Powder
  • 4cups Water
TO TEMPER
  • 1/2tsp Mustard
  • 1tsp Oil
  • 3tsp Ghee
  • 1/2tsp Asafoetida
  • 6number Cashew Nuts
  • 2tsp Peanuts
FOR GARNISHING
  • A Few Coriander Leaves
Instructions
  1. Soak Avarekalu or Hyacinth Beans in water for 8 hours. Soak white channa, black channa and white peas in water for 8 hours.
  2. Soak tamarind in water for 5 minutes.
  3. Rinse rice and tur dal in water and add water.
  4. Add Avarekalu, white and black channa and white peas.
  5. Add tamarind extract.
  6. Add salt.
  7. Add Eastern Bisi Bele Bath Powder.
  8. Cook for 4-5 whistles.
  9. Add oil, asafoetida and mustard in a tempering ladle.
  10. Add cashewnuts and peanuts.
  11. Pour the tempering to the rice mixture.
  12. Add coriander leaves for garnishing.
  13. Serve hot.
Recipe Notes
  1. You can use any legume of your choice.
  2. Add vegetables with the legumes if you want to.
  3. You can add onions, if you wish to.
