VELLA AVAL

Some traditional dishes are long forgotten as they aren’t prepared anymore in some households.I just stumbled upon an old cookbook which was full of old days recipes. As they say old is gold. This Vella Aval is nothing but beaten rice with jaggery cooked to perfection with coconut and ghee.Offerings to the GOD are normally made with sweet and this is no exception.Lord Krishna as we all know is fond of Aval/Poha Beaten rice,Normally made during Krishna Janmashtami this a simple yet flavourful sweet dish which you can make as an Naivedhya/Offering.Children at home will like this .The good thing about it is that you can store for 2 days. The flakes of rice or beaten rice swell when added to water and there are two types thick and thin rice flakes available in the market.I also use red rice flakes sometimes which also tastes equally good, but in this recipe i have used white ones.Since it needs very less soaking time and you can make it soon and the good part is it is easily digestable and most suited for elderly at home.I make this once in a while since my daughter has a sweet tooth and when i made this last week had a chance to click it and am sharing this recipe..
