Kuzhambu Varieties

THAKKALI VATHA KUZHAMBU

I like Vatha Kuzhambu and often make it at home as all at home are fond of it too.I normally make it with various vagetables like lady’s finger, brinjal, baby onions etc. They all taste good an are a good accompaniment to rice.Recently I chanced to lunch at my friend’s place who had made this Thakkali Vatha Kuzhambu or Tomato Vatha Kuzhambu along with a big menu.I have never tasted such a tasty kuzhambu and was curious to get the recipe from her.I got it later and prepared it last weekend and it was the tastiest delicacy I ever made. The recipe calls for no tamarind but I added a small ball and extracted juice and added. You may or may not add tamarind,it’s up to your taste and convenience.

The variations include the addition or non addition of garlic or onion in it.I didn’t add either of them and was quite happy with the recipe. The chunky bits of tomato will give the taste you ask for and the flavor with sesame oil makes it all more special. This variety of Kuzhambu is easy for beginners as it involves no grinding and it is done in minutes.Though I made it as an accompaniment for rice,it tastes equally good with Dosas,Idli,Arisi Upma and Ven Pongal. The day I made it I made it a little extra to keep it as a side dish for dosa for dinner. You can keep it in fridge and use it for 2-3 days as it does not any dal.
