This might sound a little odd to some to be posted as a recipe in a blog.But then knowing it’s health benefits particularly for growing children,I thought it can be featured here as well. Pottukadalai or roasted   gram are a high source of protein and can fill in your sudden hunger pangs.These have been used in our diet since time immemorial and can sure come handy while travelling.A simple,humble sweet snack for almost everyone at home,these protein loaded balls are surely going to fill your hungry tummy when you want to munch on and on ……

  1. In a heavy bottomed pan add 1cup of water and bring to a boil.
  2. Add powdered jaggery and cardamom powder to it.
  3. Take coconut and simply take the scrapings with the help of a knife.
  4. Now cut coconut pieces and dry roast them till fine aroma comes.
  5. Meanwhile our jaggery syrup would be boiling.
  6. In a small cup of water add the jaggery syrup and see whether you can just roll it into a ball.
  7. That would be the correct consistency.
  8. Add roasted coconut pieces and mix well.
  9. Just drizzle over this jaggery syrup over roasted grams.
  10. Grease your palm with ghee and start making balls slowly.
  11. You can store it for a fortnight and enjoy.

There are two types of roasted gram available in the market,you can use any one of them.

Using the same proceedure you can make groundnut balls,but be sure they are roasted and their skin thawed.
