When i say iam going to make some snacks my family is always in for it as they are always a welcome for them.Hubby likes to munch something after dinner and daughter dear is also fond of them.Generally this oma podi i make a little extra and set aside some for Bhel puri of which my daughter dhivya is a huge fan.So friends,this new post of mine is an all time favorite in all households irrespective of age.

Yes, oma podi or sev is a very easy snack and when you have assembled all the ingredients it can be made in a jiffy.Besides being a flavourful snack it can be made in bulk and stored for making chaats or for mixing in mixture.There are several nazhis/press available in the market.I have used the ones with medium holes.In case you are making the sev for bhelpuri use the ones with very fine holes.This fine sev is also called Nylon sev.I do not know how it got this fancy name, but as they” whats in a name”?So here is the recipe for omapodi/sev.

  1. Sieve gram and rice flour.Dry roast omam in a small pan.
  2. Soak this in water in a blender.
  3. Grind well.Also sieve the extract.
  4. In a large bowl add gram flour, rice flour, salt, omam extract, butter/oil and red chilly powder.Mix well with your hands so that the whole mixture blends with each other.
  5. Add water slowly and make a dough.
  6. Use this acchu or press shown to squeeze the dough.
  7. Take two handful of dough in the press.
  8. Heat oil in a kadai and squeeze the mixture.Once golden brown take out.
  9. Take out and put in a tissue to absorb excess oil.Repeat with the remaining dough.Enjoy Oma podi with hot coffee.

Notes

Storing is as much important as making for these type of snacks.Store in an air tight container.

This can used for adding in mixture as well.

Mix dough well so that no lumps are formed.

Heat oil well before squeezing out the dough on to the oil.
