MOONG DAL KHICHDI

Moong Dal Khichdi is a delicious one pot meal using rice, lentils with a few spices and vegetables. There are many variations and methods in making this, but I have stuck to a basic simple method using pan. The time taken was less than I thought, since the original recipe calls for making it in a pressure cooker and I made it in Nirlep Selec+ fry pan. Not only the contents didn’t stick to the bottom, the whole recipe was made without effort and the outcome simply heavenly. My daughter enjoyed this today for breakfast and I am now tempted to make new varieties in the coming days to try out more khichdi recipes. As you can see it has only very minimal ingredients and it is less spicy as well. So you can give this to small children as also elderly people who find it difficult to swallow or chew.

I had once visited a spa where they served it for breakfast. It was so tasty and flavourful that I wanted to post this, but kept forgetting it until today. You can make another version of this using no onion no garlic, and also use green gram dal in place of moong dal. As I said before, the sky is the limit and you can make innumerable varieties of khichdi. Recently as a result to popularise Khichdi worldwide and create awareness globally, an effort was made at Great Indian Food Street Hangar, India Gate Lawns, New Delhi. It was inaugurated by the Prime minister himself. Later this dish was announced as the National Dish of India. Try out this simple and easy meal for your loved ones and let me know thw results.
