Snacks

JHAL MURI

Jhal Muri is a delicious crunchy street food snack of flavoured with mustard oil and famous to the Kolkatta region. The street vendors lined up on the corners will make it with professional ease and the taste is simply out of the world.Specially during monsoon season, this will be selling as hot cakes.I am always fond of chaats and found just an excuse of the rains and had it to my fulfilment.I learnt from my friend who is a Bengali, there is a masala called Moodi Masala which is specifically made for the purpose.I didn’t have Moodi Masala but had all the ingredients,so just mixed all the powders and could make the same Jhal Muri for all at home.

So as you can see all the roadside eatables can be made at home keeping in mind our health and hygiene and enjoy the snacks to the core.I learnt that Jhal Muri was invented by hawkers in passenger trains between Bankura and Purulia districts of West Bengal.A great invention indeed and the rest is history. The main difference between the Bhel Puri and Jhal Muri is that it uses mustard oil which gives unique taste and aroma to the snack and coconut oieces which are slightly roasted and added to give the crunch.Rest of the ingredients are same and is easily available at home. Now make this recipe for the monsoon and munch with your family and friends..
