It is holiday time and all the mothers will be doubly busy with kids constant question”what’s for snack this evening”?I also face such problems and daughter likes fancy food very much.She likes this chilli idli to the core,I too love it.You can make it as an after school snack as well.It was in Chennai’s Saravana Bhavan that I tasted chilli idli first.The texture is that of crunchy fried idlis folded in spices and vegetables with a tinge of lemon for added flavour.Always tasty.Now all the kids like fried and spicy food,you can give this as a nice filling treat this holiday season’s evening snack schedule.They pair it with onion raita at hotel,I served with simple thick curd.Scroll down for an easy recipe of chilli idli,try out and let me know..

Instructions
  1. Make idlis and cool down or take left over idlis.
  2. Cube them.
  3. Deep fry them in a pan of oil.
  4. Take them out.
  5. Chop vegetables and keep ready.
  6. In a pan add oil and jeera.Add grated ginger.
  7. Add onions and fry till pink.
  8. Add tomato and capsicum.
  9. Add red chilly powder,pav bhaji masala powder and salt.Cook till mushy.
  10. Add fried idlis now.
  11. Add lemon juice.
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  13. Serve piping hot directly from kadai with onion raita or curd.

Notes

  • Addition of garlic alongwith ginger enhances the flavour.
  • You can add green peas in place of capsicum.
  • Serve with any chutney or raita of your choice.
